In order to charter a sailboat, you need a resume that shows you have enough sailing experience and knowledge to satisfy the charter company that you can safely handle the sailboat under any conditions. If you have never sailed a boat, you have a couple of options. You can take sailing and navigation lessons or you can go on a crewed bareboat charter.
If you take sailing and navigation lessons, you will probably be limited to chartering a smaller bareboat on your first charter.
A crewed bareboat charter is the same as a bareboat charter except you pay for an experienced captain to be in charge of the boat. The advantage of that is that you can learn to sail while enjoying the cruise. Also, you may be able to return to the same charterer on your next trip and charter a larger boat than you would have if you learn to sail on your own.
